Player Icons & Foil List 2018

Unfortunately, the off-season is upon us. After being treated to 7 months of baseball nearly every day, the withdrawal can be depressing. However, there’s always baseball news and happenings to look out for even if the ball isn’t in play. Free agent signings and hirings/firings are usually the big announcements, but over here at Clutch headquarters we were patiently marking down the days until all of the 2018 icons were revealed.

Most importantly, we have two new icons coming next year. On offense we have the RBI icon, giving more power to sluggers and big bats in the middle of the lineup. Even more exciting is the HL aka Hold icon for relievers. Besides closers and the SV (Save) icon, pitchers coming out of the bullpen had no realistic icons until now. For those who don’t know, the Hold stat is basically calculated the same way as the Save stat just before the 9th inning.

And lastly, I will explain how the icons are chosen. GG, SL (minus the NL Pitcher), and MVP are self-explanatory. The rest are determined by top 3 in each league. The only sticky situation is when a player changes leagues during the season. For example J.D. Martinez hit 45 home runs (in less than 500 PA), that’s a lot.  However he hit 16 in the AL with Detroit and 25 in the NL with Arizona. So technically he’s not top 3 in either league, but he deserves it. So players like that get put into the league that they ended the season on but they don’t push out anyone who actually finished in the top 3 of that league. Get it? Ties in statistics can also cause more than just 3 players to receive an icon.  So without further ado, here are your official 2018 player icons!
