Legends Set
For those that missed it, they announced that there would be a "Generations" Set released this coming December.
So here is my unsolicited advice for that set.
Tony Gwynn (RF/LF)
Career Year 1987: 218 Hits, 56 SB, .370 Avg, GG icon. (You could also go 1994 .394 Avg year, or 1997 with 220 hits, 17 HR, 119 RBI and .372 Avg.)
Trevor Hoffman (CP)
1998: 1.48 ERA, 53 SV, gave up just 2 home runs all year, SV icon. (You could also go 1996 2.57 era, 42 SV, 111 K.)
Jake Peavy (SP)
2007: 19 W, 2.54 ERA, 240 K, Cy Young Icon
Phil Nevin (3B)
2001: 41 HR, 126 RBI, .306 Avg
Khalil Greene (SS)
2007: 155 H, 27 HR plus 1.5 dWAR.
Mark Loretta (2B)
2004: 208 hits, .335 Avg, 16 HR
Aki Otsuka (RP)
2004: 1.75 ERA, 10.1 K/9
Ryan Klesko (1B)
2001: 30 HR, 113 RBI, 23 SB, .283 Avg.
We should have an exclusive Tony Gwynn series. He has multiple years that would be great. I can already tell you now that Trevor Hoffman is going to be ? $$$ pricey.
I'll offer up my Red Sox hopefuls in addition to ones I listed here: removed link
Dustin Pedroia - 2B
2008: .326 Avg, 20 SB, 54 2B
Icons: MVP, SL, GG, AS
Mo Vaughn - 1B
1995: .300 Avg, 39 HR, 126 RBI
Icons: MVP, SL, RBI, AS
Nomar Garciaparra - SS
1998: .323 Avg, 35 HR, 122 RBI
Icons: none despite it likely being his best removed link Finished 2nd in MVP but somehow not an All-Star
Jason Varitek - C
2005: .281, 22 HR, 70 RBI
Icons: GG, SL, AS
Curt Schilling - SP
2004: 21-6 record, Bloody-sock game, 2nd in CY Young voting
Icons: AS, W
----side note: probably better to give Schilling a D-Backs card first, but I'm greedy 🙂

A 15 OB Edgar would be lovely.
And I would be shocked if we didn't get an 01 Ichiro.

If you guys want even more of my money I ain't saying no to a Tony Gwynn series.... Listen, when it comes to Hoffy I will absolutely disregard all my dissertations on here about not spending salary on pitchers to have him on my team.
Despite being a Padres fan, I would also very much enjoy a '01 Bonds card, sure it's going to give you guys a headache to figure that card out but I can't wait to figure out how my roster of Trout, Bonds and Judge works.
'08 K-Rod
'03 Eric Gagne
'00 Todd Helton
'94 Jeff Bagwell
'07 Magglio Ordonez
'07 A-Rod
'99 Derek Jeter
'99-'02 Randy Johnson
LE idea: '05 John Dowd. Shout out to the MVP Baseball 2005 homies.

I second the idea of Bonds but would also add Sosa, McGwire, Canseco, etc. to the list. Hell, I'd even like to see a Rafael Palmeiro card (although if he makes his comeback he'll just be in the base set ? ).
Aside from '07 A-Rod it would be awesome to have a Mariners (1998) card of his. He hit 42 HR and had 46 SB that season - ludicrous. The potential for 19+ HR and A speed is beautiful but also makes my head spin thinking about the 800+ salary implications.

LOL Jon Dowd.
Hard Pass on the 'roiders. Not in the hall, not in Clutch. #SemiUnpopularOpinion
The world isn't ready for a 2001/2003 Barry Bonds Clutch card. Not until inflation increases team salary to 10,000 at least. IMO, the biggest issue with the "generations" set is going to be having enough affordable players. If we made each player using their best season, realistically you would only be able to use like two cards on your team. No doubt 2001 Ichiro was arguably my favorite showdown card to use in tourneys. Not the best on-base, but loaded with Icons. He may actually be semi-affordable figuring it wasn't his best OBP/avg season.

Any ideas how many cards the generations set will be?
'03 Juan Pierre, '08 Grady Sizemore, '08 Ryan Howard, '02 Lance Berkman,
Pulled out my showdown cards here are some "mid tier" guys that had interesting showdown cards.
'97 Craig Biggio 2B
'02 John Olerud 1B
'00 Jason Kendall C
'05 Melvin Mora 3B
'04 Brad Wilkerson OF (Montreal Expos!)
'01 Ray Durham 2B
'01 Eric Chavez 3B
'05 Rafael Furcal SS
'01 Mike Cameron CF
'06 Roy Oswalt SP
'07 Mark Buehrle SP
'01 Mike Mussina SP
'98 Al Leiter SP
'05 Chris Carpenter SP
'91 David Cone SP
'02 Arthur Rhodes RP
'05 Jason Isringhausen CP
I mean, a Stubby Clapp and Bo Hart card would be awesome, but I'm not entirely sure anybody but me would appreciate them.
I may have said this already but in the event that I didn't here are some 'Stros I'd like to recommend.
Bagwell & Bigio (of course)
'95 Derek Bell (because you gotta get the whole B hive together) (assuming Berkman doesn't get made)
'99 Billy Wagner
'99 Jose Lima (RIP)
'97 Darryl Kile (RIP) (I swear I didn't start this list with a theme in mind)
'99 Mike Hampton
'04 Jeff Kent (I know, I know, people associate him more with SF and his '00 MVP season)
'00 Shane Reynolds
'06 Roy Oswalt
'03 Octavio Dotel
'05 Brad Lidge (one of these days that '05 NLCS Gm. 5 bomb from Pujols will land)
'05 Morgan Ensberg (super underrated)
